Links added

Added links to the other AP forum bloggers on the side. Also those blogs are now combined at the http://apforumblogs.com/blogs.html. Thanks to Brad/Blubboz for putting that together.

Off to Apple Store on Michigan Ave because my iPod has stopped working. Annoying.

Closing out February?

Haven't decided if I'm going to play tomorrow, so tonight may have been the last night of my poker month. Went out mostly with a wimper. Played seven tournaments, only cash was bubbling the FT of the cake 30r. That sounds familiar. Perhaps because it's exactly what happened yesterday. I was never high on chips on the cake 30r, but mostly survived by shoving when I could. Was tenth in chips out of 11 when found A9s in bb, button pushed and I couldn't hold against K6o. Lame. Just a matter of time on Cake though it seems.

Otherwise, lasted about five minutes on BD $109fo tonight when I raised with AKs and flopped a flush. Donkey actually raises me on flop with AJ on J 9 3 board, in a play that is either bold or donktastic (I have an opinion, guess which one). Got it in on the turn after board paired 9s and he made a boat on the river. Maybe that should have been some sort of sign for the night.

Walked into an obvious utg AA limper in the final hand of the night in the 9k like a moron. I suck.

In other news, jond is a sicko, shipping the 100K last night for like 38K or something. Carson finished third, and donkey 5 handed CL finished 5th. Wasn't hard to see that one coming.

Also, played the AP 6k in the afternoon today along with a couple cash games to kill an afternoon, and it featured new AP "pro" Liv Boeree, seen here: http://www.absolutepoker.com/livboeree/. Ah to be a pretty face, though you wouldn't think that would be that useful for online poker. Apparently it is. I like her poker accomplishments: she won one tournament of undetermined stakes, won a satellite, and finished 7th in a poker tournament specifically for amateurs. For a poker pro, that resume is um, sparse. I have a lot more on my resume, and I'm an absolute nothing (or unknown as Bodog would rightly put it). She must actually be smart as hell if she has "a first class degree in physics with astrophysics", though that seems to get the same emphasis on her webpage as the fact that she likes Metallica and has a lizard called Mr. Osterlind. Vital information, that. Still, I'm sure she'll do fine with a basic poker knowledge, because the 6k is the biggest tournament she's playing and the players in that tournament are mostly terrible.

Hey, had this blog for two days and haven't veered wildly off the topic of poker yet. It's coming I'm sure.

Not Much Good To Say About Tonight...

6 tournaments (not counting AP forum tournament, which doesn't really count as a money making venture), 1 cash. Don't think I played well early. Made one terrible call on Stars (KJ v. KK, made a straight, wow) that worked out, then didn't even cash anyway (AA cracked by 88, guess I deserved that). Bubbled the final table on Cake 30r on this hand:

Hand #1424199B29002760:
Tournament Table 5
Seat 4: pooob (125341.00 in chips)
Seat 5: Innocuous (93174.00 in chips)
Seat 7: bransara (128647.00 in chips)
Seat 8: cityassassin (185170.00 in chips)
Seat 9: bzimzim (101399.00 in chips)
pooob posts ante of $500
Innocuous posts ante of $500
bransara posts ante of $500
cityassassin posts ante of $500
bzimzim posts ante of $500
Innocuous: posts small blind $2,500
bransara: posts big blind $5,000
Dealt to bzimzim [ 5s 6s ]
cityassassin: folds
bzimzim: raises to $13,000
pooob: folds
Innocuous: folds
bransara: calls
@@@ F_L_O_P @@@ [ Kd 6d 5d ]
bransara: bets $31,000
bzimzim: is all in 87899.0000
bransara: calls
*** TURN *** [ 9s ]
*** RIVER *** [ 9h ]
*** SHOW DOWN ***bransara wins $206,798 with Two Pairs, Kings and Nines

Had been playing pretty solid throughout the tourney, clearly opened up here five handed. Obv knew I was good, but knew I'd have to fade him catching two pair or hitting on his flush draw. Or both, in this case (he had 10d). Didn't happen on counterfeit, nh, gg. First place $6k or so, would have been in a great position (second in chips) if I'd won this pot. Instead, back to work tomorrow. Still love cake though. Fields are so soft it's unreal. The quality of opponents I almost feel like I'm back playing $11 sngs on AP like when I first started playing online.

AP forumers jond and carson still in $100K on AP, 5 left, hopefully one of them ships it. Haven't been watching close, but CL seems like a donk.

The State of Brian's Poker Union

As I write, the state of my poker universe is strong, just like Bush has said the country is for the last seven State of the Unions. Only one of us is full of shit.

It certainly wasn't like that to start the year. January was totally unproductive until I made a little money in the last week, finishing +$2100. Not great. Then I opened the month by not cashing in 26 straight tournaments. Not once. Horrific. On Saturday the 9th, since I was in the negative for the year and all, I told a friend of mine I was "going back to school", and pulled every poker book I owned off my shelves with the intention of going back to basics. A Harrington here, a Sklansky there.

Sunday was much better:
http://beat.bodoglife.com/poker/bzimzim-wins-bodog-sunday-100k-guaranteed-online-poker-tourney-34589.html

1. bzimzim - $25,000.00
2. ezmoney31 - $14,000.00
3. DeCodeD - $9,000.00
4. cvanm - $6,500.00
5. Remih - $5,400.00
6. lowdog - $4,400.00
7. will19 - $3,400.00
8. matt1269 - $2,400.00
9. Ned Reyerson - $1,550.00

Score one for the "unknowns" :)

It was twice my biggest previous largest cash, which was $12.5K in the old AP 80K (or maybe 70K, whatever the big Saturday tournament was back in the good ole days of AP). And in a particular bit of fitting justice, in that previous tournament I got repeatedly sucked out on heads up: KK v 44, AK v A4, and a couple of other times I got my money in good. First was $22.5K in that tournament. Well this time I got my money in with A8 against 88, and spiked an A on flop obv. I run good. There is some justice in the world after all.

Been backsliding for most of the rest of this month until hit a bit of run the past two days. Second in the 20r AP nooner for $1300, 2nd in an afternoon UB $109fo for $1600, 3rd in the nightly AP 30r for $2266, shipped a $65KO on UB for $985 (with the bounties). Was deep in a $109fo on stars yesterday until couldn't find any good spots when down to two tables. Still not a bad two days work, though mostly it just cancelled out the backsliding. Now back up to 24K for the month and a little change.

As I write this, in a RP qualifier for the 100k tonight, and my table is awful. Gonna need to find some cards to exploit it though, these guys aren't folding, and really overplay their hands. If I qualify, hopefully I play better than the last time I was in the 100K, when my play would best be described as "horrific".

Speaking of that, up to 50/100 in that qualifier, couple limpers, just shoved with 10s for 1300, called by A6s, A on river. I run good. Nh, wp donkey.

So that's where my poker game stands at the moment. I've been focusing on multis (a decision I'll probably post about at some point), so I'll hit those up tonight and see what happens. 45 minutes until the the 6 pm Bodog $109, FT $75 and Stars $109, 3 tournies I play pretty regularly.

Introduction

Needing a creative outlet, and in absolute follower/copycat fashion of other APers who've started a blog, I've done the same.

This blog will talk about poker for sure, but I make no promises that it won't veer wildly in other directions, such as politics, sports, movies and random things about my life.

I do intend to keep updating frankly to keep my sure-to-be many readers happy (er, yeah). Or just because I think it would be good for me to write my thoughts down frequently.

Title from Arcade Fire's "Antichrist Television Blues".

More to come.
